Jaipur School
The Jaipur school represents one of the most popular yet least known group of miniatures from Rajasthani. In the 18th and early 19th centuries Jaipur miniatures were exported all over the country.
Jingshan Peasant Paintings
These paintings are created by Chinese peasants working in Fengjing Town near Changhai. During the late 1970s the Chinese painter Wu Toangzhang began teaching painting techniques to the Jinshan farmers. Most were older women skilled in various folks arts such as embroidery, paper cutting and folding and weaving. These folks arts heavily influenced the style of painting that developed. Spatial reality and perspective are unimportant. Figures and objects have a childlike quality and the paintings have a charming, primitive appeal. The resulting paintings are not traditional Chinese nor Western but portray a universal celebration of everyday life.
Kwu Yuet
He uses his brush to create poetic paintings full of rich color. He was born into an artistic family in Guangdong and was naturally influenced by art. He studied at the Art College in Guangdong and has had many exhibitions and received awards. Colorful and bold, his paintings reflect both Chinese and Western influences.
Lee Ngo
Lee Nego was born in Canton province and graduated from the Fine Arts Institute of Canton. He combines a contemporary as well as a primitive aspect to his graphic work which depict everyday life in a most charming and simple manner.
Mevar School
The rulers of this region traced their lineage back to the “Great Clan of the Sun”and the earliest dated example of this style of painting is dated to 1605 as created by the artist Nisardin Nasiruddin. He is credited with working out the basic elements of the Mevar style.
Mr. Zhang
Artist Zhang from Anhui province expresses himself in both contemporary and traditional forms
Mr. Zhu Liang
Mr. Zhu has been studying flower and bird painting for over 20 years. Since the age of 13 he has worked under various master paintings. In recent years he has traveled the Three Gorges area and has been impressed with the natural beauty of the landscapes and wildlife both of which have provided him boundless inspiration. Boxing Dragons considers it our good fortune to have acquired two of his magnificent paintings.
Peng Fucai
Peng Fucai was born in Chongqing in 1965 and graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1991. He is currently teaching art as well as creating his own paintings. His materials include brushes of weasel or goat hair on rice paper, made of wheat or rice straw or bamboo. He has been painting this particular type of subject for nearly 15 years. The special texture of the rice paper allows for long preservation. Some ancient Chinese paintings on the same types of paper have been well preserved for over 200 years. The seals he uses are personally carved and the red ink paste is made of specially treated cinnabar. He exaggerates various parts of the female body to emphasize what he considers the most beautiful aspects of women engaged in every day activities to which they bring and find happiness.
Professor Ziang
Originally from the area of the Sichuan Province near the Tibetan border, he has always admired the hardiness and religious devotion of the Tibetan nomads. He believes them to be very noble and tries to capture their spirituality in their weather beaten features. He enjoys traveling to Tibet as well as collecting Tibetan tankas (religious paintings).
Shi Yiu Ping
Shi Yiu Ping is a native of Guangdong a coastal village known for beautiful scenery and artists. Since childhood he has loved painting but his family was too poor for him to attend art school. Shi Yiu Ping is a self taught painter who loves depicting rural life with techniques from both traditional and contemporary art. His vivid imagination as reflected in his paintings is appealing and appreciated by many.
Xu Ren
Born in 1939 in Guangdong, China, Xu Ren has always loved art and is largely self taught. He learns from tradition but has not been confined by it as he has a fertile imagination and a strong Chinese literature background. Realistic and detailed best describe his paintings which are based upon research and different historical periods. His “polo playing ladies” are detailed and delightful as they convey a sense of action and intensity of play.
